We offer individual and couples counseling to people who are ready to see changes happen in their life. Therapy can be like aspirin, a short term treatment to relieve pain and other symptoms. Therapy can also be like a vitamin, used to promote health and wellness. With the philosophy that people deserve effective and efficient mental health care that doesn’t just feel like one more thing you have to do, we strive to offer convenient hours, modalities (Telehealth and office appointments), and insurance coverage. The therapists at Shurmatz Counseling have decades of experience in the helping profession, are subject matter experts on trauma, anxiety, performance enhancement, grief, and domestic violence. All treatment is confidential, comfortable, and respectful.

Frequently Asked Questions
Human beings do not like surprises. We really like to have some idea of what something new might be like. If you have any questions that are not addressed below, please feel free to email or call us!
How do I know when it's time to get support?
I think people often know when they need help. If you or someone you care about is suffering, therapy can be a transformational process. Some people use therapy the way we use an aspirin, to address an acute problem that is causing pain. Other people use therapy like a vitamin, to assist in overall health and wellness.
What type of therapy is offered?
We offer individual therapy, couples counseling, and family counseling. Individual counseling can include a variety of interventions, including ACT, CBT, DBT, EMDR, internal family systems, mindfulness-based stress reduction, and schema therapy.
Couples counseling includes the Gottman Method and Emotionally focused therapy.
How long do therapy sessions last?
A standard therapy appointment is between 53 and 60 minutes. The length of a treatment episode is related to a number of variables, including the severity of symptoms and goals of treatment.
What happens if I can't make my appointment?
Shurmatz Counseling requires 24 hours notice to change or cancel an appointment in order to avoid a late cancellation charge.
Will my appointments be covered by my insurance?
Counseling is covered by the vast majority of insurance plans. If you have specific questions about your coverage, including co-payments or deductible amounts, we ask that you contact your insurance carrier.
What therapist will I be meeting with?
Shurmatz Counseling has several therapists who have different specializations. We do our best to link clients with a therapist who specializes in the area the client is looking to work on. Please note that not all therapists at Shurmatz Counseling are able to bill all insurance plans.
